Ingredients:

Methods

  1. Wash red lentils and keep them aside. Chop all the vegetables as mentioned in the ingredients.
  2. Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, minced garlic, ginger, carrots, and green chilli. Cook for about 3-5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. Add salt, red chilli powder, bay leaf, pepper, cinnamon, ginger and turmeric. Stir for another 2 minutes.
  4. Add 3 cups of water and the washed lentils in the pot. Once it boils, simmer the gas and let the lentils cook. Roughly 10-15 mins. If you use a pressure cooker then we need only two whistles.
  5. Once the lentils are cooked, taste the soup and adjust the seasoning if needed. Remove the whole spices.
  6. If you prefer a smoother texture, you can use an immersion blender to blend the soup to desired consistency. Continue to simmer for a few minutes and add lemon juice and pepper to taste.
